Good morning, and welcome back!
Welcome back to the Points Summer Book Club. Today we begin our discussion of Paul Fussell's "The Great War and Modern Memory," with Dr. Larry Allums. I don't know about you, but I found the book pretty challenging, especially because I was unfamiliar with nearly all of the literary works Fussell discussed. But at the same time, I found Fussell's insights fascinating, and gained a much deeper appreciation for how World War I created the modern consciousness.
This is going to be a much different book to discuss than "All Quiet on the Western Front." I can't wait to hear what Dr. Allums has to say about it. By all means, join us in the comment boxes. I'll be in the editorial board staff meeting until late morning, but then I'll jump right in.
