Today's the last day for the "All Quiet on the Western Front" part of our blog. If you haven't picked up your copy of Paul Fussell's "The Great War and Modern Memory," by all means do. You'll have three weeks or so to read ahead in it before this blog returns for a discussion of that book. Nota bene, Borders is supposed to have a good supply of the Fussell book onhand, but in point of fact, it does not. I went by last night to the Borders on Lovers at Greenville, and they had none in the store. They looked in their computer and I could see over the shoulder of the clerk that there were only a relative handful in all of Dallas. So, before making a trip to your local Borders, call first. Otherwise, order the Fussell book here.
I did purchase a copy last night, and read the first chapter. It's extremely good, though a more challenging read than "All Quiet." I'm pleased and amazed by how just that first chapter in the Fussell has helped me understand "All Quiet" in historical context. Larry, you did a splendid job in picking these two books to be read together.

I bought my Fussell book last week at Barnes & Noble on NW Hwy across from Northpark. They had a new shipment, but I do not know how many that would be.

For what it's worth, I saw several copies of the Fussell book at the Half Price Books in Richardson (near Campbell and Central) last week. They may still be around.
